Intel 8255

The piece of peripheral interface programmable of Intel 8255 (or i8255) is a peripheral piece in the beginning developed for the microprocessor of Intel 8085, and because such is a member of a great line of such pieces, known under the name of family MCS-85. This piece later was also used with Intel 8086 and its descendants. It later was made (copied) per many of other manufacturers. It is made in versions encapsulated by pins of IMMERSION 40 and the PLCC 44.

This piece is employed to give the access of central processing unit of treatment to the programmable input-output of parallel, and is similar to others such pieces like the pia of Motorola 6520 (adaptor of peripheral interface) technology 6522 (adaptor of MOS of flexible interface) and the technology the CIA (adaptor of MOS of interface complexes) very developed for family 6502. Others such pieces are interface 2655 programmable peripheral of the family of Signetics 2650 of the microprocessors, the 6820 Pio (peripheral input-output) of the family of Motorola 6800, the Western center of increased design WDC 65C21, the 6520, and much of others.

The 8255 is employed in personal computers such as SV-328 and all the MSX, but is perhaps most known for its use in the wearing of original parallel printer of IBM-PC 'of S (maintaining mainly old and replaced by the standard of USB, and considered a wearing of legacy).

However, generally the functionality the 8255 offered is not now application with 8255 the piece itself more, but is included in a more great piece of VLSI like secondary function. 8255 the piece itself is still realized, and is sometimes employed as well as a micro controller to increase his possibilities of input-output.
